mediumship

Just joined the Spiritualist chatroom forum tonight. Quite excited. I’d tried to join before, but been locked out.

“…it wasn’t until late March that the family began to be frightened by unexplained sounds that at times sounded like knocking, and at other times like the moving of furniture. During the night of March 31, Kate challenged the invisible noise-maker to repeat the snaps of her fingers. It did. It was asked to rap out the ages of the girls. It did.” -Wikipedia
According to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this spirit continued rapping even when the Fox girls were not in the house…

The Fox Sisters – Margaret, Kate, & Leah
Founders of Spiritualism
Maggie eventually abandoned mediumship for love. In Philadelphia, she met and fell in love with famed Arctic explorer Elisha Kent Kane, the dashing son of an aristocratic family, who did not deem Maggie worthy of marrying into their line. They did exchange vows and rings in the company of friends but were never legally wed. Unfortunately, the affair ended in tragedy when Kane died in 1857. Maggie was left broken-hearted and almost penniless. She had abandoned being a medium but now had to take it up again. She began drinking and her health and her mental state began to decline. -Prairieghosts.com
While the critics laughed and cried “I told you so”, devoted Spiritualists denounced Margaret’s confession as the ravings of a sad and tired drunk. Kate, who did not speak at the public appearance, later stated that she did not agree with her sister and she continued to perform as a medium….Kate later drank herself to death in July 1892 at the age of only 56. Her body was discovered by one of her sons. Margaret died in March 1893, at age 59, in a friend’s home in Brooklyn. At the time of her death, she was penniless. -Prairieghosts.com
As a result of their spiritualistic activities, the Fox sisters were condemned and lived in constant danger. They were attacked by religious fanatics in their community, and besieged by angry mobs several times. They were also exploited, and eventually betrayed by their own sister, Leah.By 1854, spirit-directed paranormal phenomenon had reached the level of an intradimensional invasion. -Digital Seance

“In vain also were exorcisms performed by clergy of various creeds. Beyond joining with loud raps in the Amens, the unseen presences took no notice of these religious exercises.” -A.C. Doyle

“these manifestations would not be confined to them, but would go all over the world…” -ibid

Up late w cold/flu, whatever this nasty bug is.

I think all my readings are a form of mediumship more or less. Interested in historical resources on Fox sisters & of course Mme Bl.
